National Adoption Day – Lina Bug

November 18th is National Adoption Day.

I have had the pure honor of photographing several adoptions in the past few years.  They are all amazing and I cry every time, including the time I photographed an adoption for a family I had never met before.  During an adoption, everyone in the court room has the opportunity to share something about the child being adopted or the family adopting.  It is a beautiful time of sharing and it’s filled with stories and joy filled tears.  Nothing compares.

Today I wanted to honor my sweet niece, Angelina Renee Flowers, who was adopted just last month by my sister Meg and brother-in-law Mark.  Lina and I have been pals since she first moved in with Meg and Mark at five months old.  We have had a special bond.  She goes on auntie dates with me and on our last date she grocery shopped with me and sang, “I looove my auntie, I LOOOOOOVE my auntie!!!!” all through the store.  She’s amazing.  I adore her.

My nephew Zeke who is seven, said it so well when he read Lina’s adoption day sign, “1144 days?!  That’s TOO long!!!  It should be only like, 150 days!”  We are glad it’s official Lina Bug.  Happy Gotcha Day!
